Google is reported to be spending millions of pounds to turn the British Library's collection into a digitalised source that people will be able to access online. The deal with open up access to 40 million pages from 250,000 books to give users a more 'advanced search experience'.
However, Tom Allsop, writing for Information World Review, argues that Google's search engine technology may itself prove outdated for the speed of digitalisation and the next generation of internet search, which is likely to be semantic. This type of search is better suited to people who are unsure of what they are looking for when they set out to do research.
